The Task Force to Reimagine Policing and Public Safety is a community based initiative arising out of the tragic aftermath of the killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis; and the many problematic policing deaths of citizens here in Denver, as well as the subsequent nationwide Black Lives Matter solidarity protests demanding the structural transformation of policing. Resulting from a year of conversations from town halls with community members, faith leaders, service providers, elected officials and Denver Department of Public Safety, the Denver Taskforce to Reimagine Policing and Public Safety published 112 Recommendations that were submitted to the Denver mayor and city council. These recommendations are designed to create a safer and healthier city for every Denverite
